C3S 2026: Opening of the Filing Period and 15 May Deadline
Companies liable for the French turnover tax (C3S) can now access the 2026 declaration form on the net-entreprises.fr platform. As every year, the declaration and electronic payment must be completed no later than 15 May 2026. This deadline concerns companies that recorded annual turnover excluding VAT exceeding €19 million in 2025. It is therefore advisable to review the declared taxable base in advance in order to avoid errors or overpayment.
C3S 2026 Filing: Timeline and Practical Arrangements
The filing service was opened on 10 March 2026 on the net-entreprises.fr portal, which centralises social reporting obligations and certain contributions collected by URSSAF.
Companies concerned must:
- complete the annual C3S declaration,
- verify the pre-filled amounts, where the form is populated using data derived from VAT returns,
- proceed with electronic payment before 15 May 2026.
Meeting this deadline is essential in order to avoid penalties and late payment surcharges.
Reminder: Nature and Operation of the C3S
The C3S (Contribution sociale de solidarité des sociétés) is a production tax based on companies’ turnover.
Its main characteristics are as follows:
- Taxpayers: companies whose turnover excluding VAT exceeds €19 million
- Tax base: turnover falling within the scope of VAT, after application of a €19 million allowance
- Rate: 0.16%
The C3S finances part of the French social security system and remains a specific feature of the French tax framework. It is frequently criticised because it is calculated independently of the company’s profitability.
C3S – A Tax That Remains Under Debate
The C3S has recently been at the centre of parliamentary developments.
During the examination of the 2026 Finance Bill, the contribution was accidentally removed from one version of the draft legislation, before being immediately reinstated through an amendment during parliamentary debates.
This episode illustrates the recurring discussions surrounding production taxes in France and the ongoing questions regarding the future of the C3S.
C3S: Often Underestimated Optimisation Opportunities
Although the rate is relatively low, the C3S may represent a significant cost for companies with high turnover and low margins. In practice, the declared tax base may contain frequent errors, particularly when the amounts are pre-filled from VAT return data. Certain transactions may in fact be excluded or adjusted, which can lead to a reduction in the contribution due.
In addition, companies may benefit from a three-year retroactive correction period, allowing them to recover potential overpayments and immediately improve their cash flow.
